The Clarkson Valley Planning and Zoning Commission, pursuant to notices published in the Legal Ledger on June 11th, on Friday, June 7th on the city’s bulletin board, the City’s website and letters were mailed to residents living within 500′ of the proposal on February 12th, met at City Hall on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 in the Clarkson Executive Center, third floor Presentation Room at 15933 Clayton Road to consider one agenda item and to make a recommendation to the Board of Aldermen.
Planning and Zoning Commission Members present:
Gregg Bogosian, Chairperson
Honora Schiller, Alderperson, Ward 2
Steve Benz
John Cloute
Karl Hussey
There are two vacancies on this Board.
The City Clerk, Michele McMahon, took Minutes.
The Chairperson opened the meeting, introduced the Commission Members, read the agenda item, and gave the floor to the representative of Piros Signs, Joe Phillips, who is in charge of Zoning Operations. Mr. Phillips spoke briefly about the school’s request, saying the proposed letters will be slightly larger than the current letters because of the boldness of the font the school chose. He said the closest house to the illuminated letters is situated behind a bank of trees, 700′ from the front entrance. The closest subdivision to Marquette’s front entrance is Country Ridge, which is situated over 900′ away and there are two dusk-to-dawn light standards between them. He said the school was requesting these letters to be dusk-to-dawn with low voltage LED (120v).
Everyone present concurred, they doubted that anyone would ever see the lighted channel letters. Mr. Phillips said the letters were white, but the Marquette letter was outlined in blue. He said the letters should last at least fifteen (15) years, or more depending on the amount of direct sunlight it receives.
Chairman, Gregg Bogosian made a motion, seconded by John Cloute, to make an affirmative recommendation to the Board of Aldermen to allow the illuminated channel lettering on the front entrance wall at Marquette High School. A roll call vote was taken with the following result: Ayes: Benz, Bogosian, Cloute, Hussey, and Schiller.
The Commission Members thanked Mr. Phillips for his presentation and said the Commission’s recommendation will be presented at the July 2nd Aldermanic Meeting.
Chairman Bogosian informed the Commission Members that Anne Grabner is in the process of moving out of Clarkson Valley and suggested a letter to Mrs. Grabner, thanking her for her years of service, would be in order. Everyone agreed. He researched the year she served, which began in 2012. She began chairing the Commission in 2013 and has served in that capacity up until now.
The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Michele McMahon
